About us

Founded in 2016 by Eddie van den Berg, BTT Engineering Consulting quickly forged a reputation for being knowledgeable and highly skilled in the area of vehicle compliance and design. With Eddie’s experience  spanning in excess of a quarter of a century in the heavy and light commercial vehicle industries along with his passion for vehicle modifications, compliance, design and physical testing, the company has now grown into an operation spanning across Australia with offices in Tasmania and Victoria. 

Since its foundation in 2016, BTT Engineering continues to increase its capabilities within the automotive industry. Through a comprehensive approach to vehicle compliance and safety, we are able to create customised solutions with fit for purpose outcomes.

Eddie van den Berg

FOUNDER & MANAGING DIRECTOR

Eddie has been in the commercial vehicle industry since 1994, beginning his career in the engineering department of MAN Australia, before later moving to Road Trans Engineering where he joined the engineering team to provide vehicle modifications to original equipment manufacturer’s such as Isuzu, Hino, Mercedes Benz as well as companies like the Country Fire Authority, to name a few. A large part of the work included modifying vehicles and consulting to the Country Fire Authority in Victoria Australia with regards to their vehicle fleet needs and requirements. Eddie has been an approved signatory for commercial vehicle modifications since 2000.  He is also an agent for the Department of Infrastructure in Canberra allowing compliance approvals to be sought. Eddie has also been actively involved with many industry associations and committees where is constantly pursuing advancement and updating of policies and standards relevant to the vehicle industry.

 

 

Jeremy Robinson

General Manager

Jeremy joined the BTT team in 2017 as an undergraduate and has since continued on to be a full time member of BTT’s team. During his tenure with BTT his knowledge in regards to vehicle standards and compliance has been displayed consistently, with his approval to be a signatory for heavy and light vehicles evidence of this. Jeremy has significant experience with vehicle approvals and has extensive knowledge of the ROVER process. He has a strong working relationship with all stakeholders in the commercial vehicle industry and explores all avenues to ensure that the best possible outcome is achieved for the client through legal, safe and fit for purpose vehicles. Jeremy also brings a strong knowledge of CAD based modelling, design and finite element (FE) analysis to the company, allowing designs to be drawn and tested to ensure compliance with the standards. He also produces professional technical reports for clients which can be utilised for expert witness, insurance or general safety enquiries. Jeremy is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Australia, along with being on the National Engineering Register (NER) and being a registered professional engineer in both Victoria and Queensland in Mechanical Engineering as required by their state legislation

 

 

Damir Marusic

Mechanical Engineer

Damir obtained his degree in 2014 and has been working in the commercial vehicle modification and compliance industry since. He is an approved engineering signatory for the national heavy vehicle regulator (NHVR) and has previously managed an engineering workshop, primarily modifying heavy vehicles and trailers for clients such as Downer Group and Scania. Through Damir’s well grounded knowledge of the vehicle compliance rules and regulations, as well as his attention to detail and fastidious approach to his work, he has proven to be invaluable to BTT Engineering and its clients.

Logan Veldhuis

Mechanical Engineer

During his time at university, Logan was heavily involved with the Formula-SAE Team, serving as the Head of Manufacturing. He joined BTT Engineering as an undergraduate in early 2019 and has built a sound knowledge base in vehicle compliance and standards in a short period of time. Since joining the team full time in early 2020, a strong interest in the industry has led to him to become an approved signatory for both heavy and light vehicle compliance. Bringing a strong knowledge of CAD based modelling, design and finite element (FE) simulation to the company, allowing him to draw designs and analyse them to ensure compliance with the standards. Logan has been assisting clients with PBS certifications where his understanding of the scheme, relationships within the industry and strong commitment to ensuring the best outcomes for the client has resulted in numerous new PBS vehicles on the road network.

 

 

Peter Whitley

Mechanical Engineer

Peter graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2016 with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. When he was not studying, Peter was working in the Formula-SAE Team, where his focus was on engine development. Upon graduation, Peter entered the Fulton Hogan graduate program. During this time, he gained a wide experience in the asphalt industry before transitioning to the maintenance workshop, where he developed a preventative maintenance system. Seeking to return to his passion for automotive engineering, Peter joined the BTT Engineering team in November 2021. With his experience, Peter brings a breadth of knowledge in heavy industry and construction equipment. Peter has quickly become a key asset in PBS certification and conducts CAD modelling and finite element analysis.

 

 

Akash Rao

Mechanical Engineer

Akash joined BTT in late 2023 bringing over past experience working with a VASS signatory along with design and production experience from his previous roles. In his time at BTT Akash has quickly developed into a reliable team member assisting with VASS and PBS inspections as well as completing ADR compliance assessments and ROVER submissions for manufacturers.

 

 

Jack Quigley

MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Jack joined the BTT team full-time in early 2023 after graduating from the Australian Maritime College in late 2021.  Throughout his time at AMC Jack has built a sound knowledge regarding design, maintenance, and management of mechanical and mechanical-electrical systems. Since starting with BTT Jack has been exposed to a wide variety of certifications and modifications involving trailers, commercial and heavy vehicles. This has also involved the use of 3D CAD modelling and Finite Element Analysis software. Jack looks forward to further developing his career, personal and professional skills with BTT Engineering in the years to come.  

 

 

Sharon Vasterink

Chain of responsibility manager

Sharon joined the BTT team in late 2023 and brings with her over 21 years of experience in compliance support, operational system reviews/development, people management, project management, risk assessments and training. Sharon has extensive experience in various facets of the private and public sectors, assisting a diverse range of clients in meeting their obligations to the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and their prime contractor requirements, including assisting companies in developing continuous improvement strategies and performance accountabilities. Sharon specialises in Chain of Responsibility (CoR) compliance; she has been nominated as a CoR consultant expert in National Heavy Vehicle (NHVR) enforcement undertakings and Court interventions (Supervisory Intervention Orders) and assisted clients in meeting their legal actions. Sharon is currently working with the NHVR and another industry experts to provide input and feedback for the registered industry code of practice (Master Code) review. The BTT team is delighted to have Sharon on board and look forward to seeing her expertise continue to deliver value for the heavy vehicle industry.

 

 

Paul Tindal

pbs & access consultant

Paul joined the BTT team in late 2023 and has worked in the transport industry for over 3 decades. Paul has previously worked for VicRoads in a number of departments, including being a regional manager for the Registration and Licensing Services and then state manager for Motor Vehicle Standards and Compliance. During his time at VicRoads Paul worked on numerous registration and licensing projects on both a state and federal level, as well as completing work for international government clients. Paul has since transitioned into roles in private enterprise, with his previous role involving assisting companies in identifying the best performing PBS combination that would suit their transport needs and subsequently project managing the manufacturing, PBS certification and access requirements for the company and combination, thus ensuring the best outcomes for the client. Paul’s skillset also involves interpreting state and federal gazettes/notices and regulations to support client’s heavy vehicle operations and compliance needs.  Paul’s experience is a valuable addition to the team and further strengthens BTT’s specialist knowledge regarding PBS certification, while also being able to add crucial support by assisting clients in getting road network access for their heavy vehicle combinations.

 

 

Dharma McIntyre

CoR, Accreditation & Permit Administration Officer

Dharma joined the BTT team early in 2024 and is a seasoned professional with a strong background in Compliance, Accreditation, and Permit Administration within the heavy vehicle space. With a keen eye for detail and extensive knowledge of NHVL regulations, Dharma ensures adherence to compliance standards while streamlining operational processes. Beyond Dharma’s professional endeavours, she is deeply passionate about staying up to date on industry trends and regulations, continuously expanding her knowledge to better serve clients. With a passion for efficiency and excellence, Dharma is dedicated to facilitating seamless operations and regulatory compliance within the industry.

 

 

Lisa Barry

ADMINISTRATION OFFICER

Lisa’s experience in administration spans 30 years. She was a Medical Receptionist for a radiology clinic, which gave her the chance to connect with people and develop a strong customer service focus. Other roles include Office Manager and Executive Assistant to the Managing Director of a leading media buying agency and Receptionist with Brisbane’s largest advertising agency, where she worked closely with six sister companies and one hundred and forty staff.  She has a Master of Arts in Creative Writing with a thesis that focuses on Peer-Assisted Learning. Lisa's experience of multi-tasking in a world of high energy, deadlines, and tension, framed with integrity and genuine compassion for others are vital assets for BTT Engineering's clients and team.  

 

 

Ravi Parmar

ADMINISTRATION OFFICER

Ravi joined the BTT team full-time in mid-2023, supporting as an Administration Officer in the Victorian office. He has a large amount of experience in administration roles working diligently over the last 5 years. Throughout his time, he gained a sound knowledge of administration and management and has great customer focused communication skills. Moreover, he has successfully completed his Masters in Construction and Infrastructure Management where he excelled his growth in the management sector and gained a very good understanding of management and administrative and business organisation. Ravi’s keen capabilities with meeting deadlines, multi-tasking and client relationship management plays a vital role for BTT engineering clients and is a pivotal member of the BTT team.

 

 

Jakob Haas

UNDERGRADUATE ENGINEER

Jakob is an undergraduate studying a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, majoring in Mathematics and specialising in Mechanical Engineering, at the University of Tasmania. Large crossover between degrees has enabled Jakob to pursue additional passions in programming and mechatronics through the completion of several Electrical and Electronics units. Throughout university Jakob has pursued several placement and employment opportunities in an attempt to establish areas of interest within the field of Engineering. He has completed placements at Caterpillar with their test and validation team, learning how command systems are validated in the laboratory and through field testing. Jakob also works alongside CSIRO bio‑acousticians and electronic engineers, to help optimise the equipment and methods used for fishery stock assessment and bluewater biological research. Jakob has remained a keen member of the BTT team whilst exploring other areas of Engineering. Here Jakob has become proficient in CAD based modelling and finite element analysis and has begun to grasp the processes involved in a wide range of vehicle and trailer certifications and modifications. Eager to continue to develop personally and professionally, Jakob looks forward to what the future holds within BTT Engineering.

 

 

Bryan Nguyen

undergraduate engineer

Bryan is currently an undergraduate at the University of New South Wales, studying a bachelor of honours in mechanical engineering, where he has acquired extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles and CAD software skills. His passion for heavy vehicles started at a young age when he was involved in assisting with maintenance on his father’s truck, developing the understanding of mechanical systems. In previous employment experiences, Bryan has been involved in working at a four wheel drive accessory fitting workshop and as a general fabricator at Clarke Industries, developing his knowledge for manufacturing design processes and further mechanical vehicle intricacies. At BTT engineering, Bryan has been able to utilize his acquired engineering skillsets and vehicle understandings to quickly become knowledgeable in the PBS certification scheme while also continuing to strengthen his CAD modelling and finite element analysis skills.
