Changes to the Truck and Dog Trailer Regulations

The NHVR have yesterday (28th September) released a new national notice, titled "National Class 3 20m Long 3-axle Truck and 4-axle Dog Trailer Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice 2022" which applies to all mainland Australia states operating under NHVR jurisdiction. (Legislation here - https://www.nhvr.gov.au/C2022G00939) The notice allows for 3-axle truck and 4-axle dog trailer combinations to achieve higher mass limits (up to 57.5t under Level 2 access) without the need for PBS Certification, with the important caveat being that the combination must meet a number of complex conditions within the notice. These conditions involve parameters regarding combination masses, dimensions and particular vehicle properties, meaning that this notice does not guarantee all combinations of vehicles will be suitable for operation at the higher masses listed on the notice.

BTT Engineering have significant experience with truck and dog combinations and road access through their PBS expertise. We can arrange for inspection of 3-axle truck and 4-axle dog trailer combinations to ascertain the maximum masses capable of being achieved and provide guidance on any additional steps to meet the requirements. This will ensure that your business does not breach the conditions of the notice and receive sanctions as a result.
