Employee Profile - Lisa Barry

As the friendly face and voice that is a customer’s first experience when contacting BTT Engineering, Lisa Barry is a key member of the BTT team. We sat down with Lisa to provide an overview of her time with BTT Engineering and answer some questions to allow clients to find out more about her experiences and interests.

“We moved to Tasmania just over two years ago from Queensland. Early one morning a couple of weeks after we arrived, we watched as the annual Longford Truck Run drove right past our front door. I stood by my gate waving to the drivers and their families as they trucked past, never expecting to be in the vehicle industry… Then BTT Engineering provided me with first job in Tasmania. With a deep background in administration for advertising and marketing companies, mechanical engineering became a huge learning curve for me. It meant much of my past work experience was left at the door, as I absorbed RVSA, AVCAIS certifications, VASS certifications, PBS certifications, CoR and the many intricacies associated with this field. I have a great deal more to learn, but after persistence and patience from our super mechanical engineers, I now know my way from a caravan ATM upgrade to a PBS certification for a truck and dog and the bits in between! Along with my colleague, Ravi, I look after administration and accounts, so if you call our office, there’s a strong chance you’ll chat with me. Customer service is the favourite aspect of my job. It’s not only extremely important, but also rewarding. Ring me so I can help you.  😊”

If you were a client interested in engaging a business for engineering consultancy, would you choose BTT Engineering to do it?

“Absolutely! Our team is incredible. There isn’t much our mechanical engineers don’t know about design, testing, certifications, legislation, and so forth. Every day they impress me with their skills. I love listening to them talk about their work, sometimes discussing how they are going to solve a tricky problem with an innovative solution. It’s cool. Yes, BTT Engineering should be the first place you call!“

What’s new at BTT Engineering?

“In the past year, BTT Engineering has introduced CoR, or Chain of Responsibility, to our suite of services. It’s an unbelievably important part of a trucking or vehicle business. So many people across a trucking business are responsible for the safety of heavy vehicles on our roads, not just the drivers who sit behind the wheel. Our CoR team knows all about CoR Regulations and Compliance. They’re a bit scary-smart to be around and provide an excellent much-needed service in the Chain of Responsibility world. 😉  “

What’s one of your strengths at BTT Engineering

“Looking after the initial call from our Tassie caravan clients when they have an ATM upgrade. I love chatting with them. I am sure it can be a bit bewildering for them to understand the process for an ATM upgrade, but each step is important and can’t be missed. It’s not as simple as “my friend has the same van, and it was fine”. Every caravan is different, and each must be inspected with the data analysed, to check the suitability for an upgrade. The odd van fails the testing, some can be processed to an upgrade immediately, but most require reinforcing and drawing designs for some form of modification to make them stronger.”

What’s your favourite trucking song?

“Ha! In my past life, I worked as a radio announcer at a country music station in Brisbane. I played heaps of trucking songs and had lots of truckies ring me for requests, but my favourite trucking song, must be the Eagles, "Life in the Fast Lane". “

What’s your goal?

“A big shiny truck ride!”

What are your interests outside of work?

“Since arriving in Tasmania, most of my time is spent with my darling husband as we explore this exquisite state. There is so much to do, such a variety. My Tassie adventures sometimes means my other major hobby has taken a back seat. I am a romance writer part time, with a Masters degree and a couple of published short stories under my belt. I love to create characters and the world in which they live. Tasmania certainly helps with this endeavour as my writing genre is Victorian romance. There’s heaps of places that boost my research, and the often-genteel world of romance writing gives an excellent balance to buses, trucks and trailers.”
