Years of BTT Engineering!
Celebrating 10 years of BTT Engineering: a conversation with Eddie
On 1 January 2016, BTT Engineering Consulting Pty Ltd began with established industry relationships, a new opportunity in Tasmania and a drive to help others and make a difference in the mechanical engineering industry.
Ten years later, we asked our Founder & Managing Director, Eddie, to reflect on how it started, the milestones that matter most to him and what he sees ahead for BTT.
A change of plans in Tasmania
When Eddie moved from Victoria to Tasmania, he arrived without employment and with an interest in trying something different from the work he had done throughout his career.
His industry contacts, however, had other ideas. People he had worked with over the years began reaching out, asking whether he could help with their engineering and regulatory requirements.
At around the same time, Tasmania’s Department of State Growth sought expressions of interest from engineers to join a new vehicle modification scheme, bringing Tasmania’s approach into line with those of most other Australian states and territories.
The combination of client demand and a new opportunity helped set BTT in motion.
“I think the signs were in the stars for me to start BTT Engineering Consulting on the 1st January 2016.”
Places for the team to come together
When asked which achievements make him most proud, Eddie says there are many. But two milestones stand out: opening official offices in Launceston and Port Melbourne.
For a growing team that had been working from home, the offices provided places to work alongside one another.
“Sounds a little counter to what the last few years have brought,” Eddie jokes.
His choice of milestones reflects how much the people within BTT have mattered to the business’s development.
Learning to lead a growing team
For Eddie, one of the biggest challenges has been bringing the right people into the business and helping them work together effectively.
Building that team has also meant learning more about leadership, supporting individuals and understanding what helps people feel positive about their work.
“I have learnt a massive amount regarding people management and what it takes to ensure that people are feeling positive about what they are doing and that they are making a difference.”
That sense of contribution remains an important part of his reflections on BTT’s first decade.
The people behind BTT
Eddie is clear that BTT’s story belongs to more than its founder.
Loyal clients, team members and industry colleagues have all helped shape the business and supported its efforts to keep improving the quality of its services and deliverables.
He also credits team members who build relationships across the industry and speak openly about their work. Those connections have helped establish BTT’s reputation and introduce the business to new people.
For Eddie, the company’s development is a testament to those who have contributed along the way, upheld its values and helped raise its standards year after year.
Looking towards the next chapter
Looking ahead, Eddie is particularly excited about the possibilities new technology brings to the heavy transport sector.
He sees opportunities to improve efficiency, support cleaner cities and strengthen connections between rural communities and economic hubs, benefiting both freight and passenger movement.
For BTT, that creates plenty to look forward to as the team continues to learn and contribute to an evolving industry.
“Where BTT and its team will end up is an exciting journey and I look forward to sharing it for a long time into the future.”
Thank you to our team, clients, colleagues and industry partners for being part of BTT Engineering’s first 10 years. We look forward to sharing the next chapter with you.
